HISTORY AND CULTURE :
Palm Springs is the transformation of the Native American oasis to the playground of Hollywood stars that started over about two thousand years ago at the arrival of the Cahuilla people. They staged here in a virtually isolated situation and spoke Ivilyuat, an accent of the Uto-Aztecan language family. There were about 35 people who were able to talk about the language according to the 1990 census, and as of the tribal enrollment of 2010, there were 410 people. The Palm Canyon used to remain occupied during the winter months (the current site of the Spa Resort Casino was famous for its natural hot springs), the Cahuilla trekked to a location of a much higher elevation inside the more excellent Chino Canyon to overcome the hot summer months, this place is easily accessible nowadays by the Palm Springs Aerial Tram.
